A China-based maker of the film Blade Runner 2049 has sued Tesla, Elon Musk, and Warner Bros Discovery over claims that they used imagery from the movie without permission.
Alcon Entertainment, the production firm behind Blade Runner 2049, says it turned down Warner Bros. ' request to feature content from the movie at Tesla's big reveal tomorrow evening of its long-rumored robocar (now apparently dubbed FSD [Full Self-Driving]).
Alcon claims that Tesla, along with other organizers of the 10 October event, used artificial intelligence (AI) to generate imagery for the promotional film despite Alcon denying them permission.
The BBC News has contacted Tesla and Warner Bros for comment.
The lawsuit said: "The financial magnitude of the misappropriation was significant.
“Any brand with the slightest amount of prudence talking to Tesla about anything has to take Musk’s hugely escalated, political, unreliable, and erratic – sometimes right on the verge of hate speech -- behavior into proper consideration,” it continued.
Alcon also alleged that the event organizers were engaging in "false endorsement" by implying a relationship between it as a production company and Tesla.
Warner Bros, which hosted the robRobotaxiveiling at one of its movie studios, is also the distributor of Blade Runner 2049 from 2017.
The sequel to the iconic 1982 cyberpunk thriller Blade Runner, which starred Ryan Gosling (First Man), Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, and Jared Leto, won two Oscars.
